ToggleSenior & Executive CV Writing: A Thorough, Bespoke and Consultative Approach
Senior CV writing needs to do considerably more than simply list the jobs you have held. When you reach a senior level in your career, you have probably spent years building your experience, managing people, making decisions and taking responsibility for increasingly complex areas of a business.
That is where I take a different approach.
I don’t believe in taking an existing CV, changing a few words and putting it into a standard template. I don’t rely on a questionnaire to tell me everything I need to know, and I don’t use AI to write your CV.
I take the time to understand your career properly.
My approach is thorough, bespoke and consultative. I want to understand what you have achieved, the level of responsibility you have held, the challenges you have dealt with and, importantly, where you want your career to go next.
Your CV should tell that story clearly and give the person reading it a reason to want to meet you.
What Makes Senior CV Writing Different?
At senior level, your CV needs to demonstrate scope, responsibility and impact.
Your job title alone tells an employer very little. If you have managed 150 people, been responsible for a multimillion-pound operation, controlled significant budgets, delivered major projects or transformed an underperforming department, I want that scope to be visible.
I also want to understand what you actually achieved.
There is a big difference between saying that you were “responsible for improving operational performance” and explaining what you changed, how you changed it and what the result was.
Perhaps you reduced costs, increased productivity, improved customer satisfaction, delivered a major transformation, built a high-performing team or successfully managed an organisation through a difficult period.
Those are the things that need to come through.
A senior CV should not simply tell someone what you were employed to do. It should demonstrate what you have actually delivered.
I Don’t Start With Your CV. I Start With You.
Your existing CV is useful, but it is only the starting point.
My process begins with a detailed one-to-one consultation where I ask questions about your career, your responsibilities, your achievements and the direction you want to take.
This is where I often uncover information that simply isn’t contained in an existing CV.
You may have delivered a significant project but not included it because you considered it part of your normal job. You may have managed a much larger operation than your CV suggests. You may have solved a major problem that saved your organisation substantial money or prevented a serious operational issue.
You know your career from the inside. I look at it from the perspective of someone reading your CV for the first time.
That difference can be extremely important.
You can see exactly how this works on my CV writing process page.
Your CV Needs to Reflect the Level You Have Reached
One of the problems I see with senior CVs is that the document hasn’t evolved with the person’s career.
Someone may have progressed from managing a small team to leading hundreds of people, yet their CV still reads like a management CV rather than a senior leadership document.
That is why I look carefully at progression.
I want the reader to understand how your career has developed, how your responsibilities have increased and what you have achieved along the way.
Your career history should provide context, but your achievements should demonstrate your value.
The finished document needs to make your level obvious without forcing the reader to work it out.
Your CV Still Needs to Work With ATS
Being a senior professional doesn’t mean you can ignore Applicant Tracking Systems.
Many organisations use recruitment technology to help manage applications, and your CV needs to be structured and written so that relevant information can be identified effectively.
This doesn’t mean filling your CV with keywords or writing for a machine.
It means understanding the terminology associated with your target roles and incorporating it naturally into a well-structured document.
I explain more about this in my guide to an ATS-friendly CV.
As part of my process, I also explain ATS to you and show you how it works. I don’t believe you should simply be handed a finished CV without understanding why it has been written in a particular way.
Your Cover Letters Are Bespoke Too
Your CV is only part of your application.
For senior roles, a well-written cover letter can provide the opportunity to explain why your particular experience is relevant to the organisation and the position you are targeting.
That’s why my packages include two bespoke cover letters.
These aren’t generic templates with your name and job title changed. I use the understanding I have gained from our consultation to create cover letters that complement your CV and can be used for the types of senior positions you are targeting.
Your CV provides the broader picture of your career. Your cover letter gives us the opportunity to focus that experience on a particular opportunity.
You can find out more about how the two work together on my CV and cover letter page.
Your LinkedIn Profile Needs to Support Your CV
I also believe that your LinkedIn profile should work alongside your CV rather than sitting separately from it.
My LinkedIn service goes considerably further than simply rewriting your headline and About section.
I go through the relevant LinkedIn settings with you personally and configure them around your individual circumstances.
That is important because everyone’s situation is different.
You might still be employed and not want your current employer or colleagues to know that you are considering a move. You might be actively looking for a new position. You might want recruiters to find you but don’t want your profile to make it obvious that you are job hunting.
There is no single LinkedIn configuration that is right for everybody.
I take those circumstances into account and go through the relevant settings with you so that you understand what they do and why they matter.
I also show you how to use LinkedIn properly. We can look at job alerts, recruiter visibility and the features that are relevant to your particular circumstances.
Where appropriate, I also show you live examples of how ATS and recruitment systems work, linking the LinkedIn process back to what we have discussed when working on your CV and cover letters.
This is not simply profile optimisation. I teach you how to use LinkedIn.
And importantly, this work is included within the package. There are no additional fees for the LinkedIn coaching.

I Want Your CV to Sound Like You
A senior CV should sound professional, but it should also sound like the person who has actually built the career.
I don’t want your CV filled with corporate clichés or phrases that could have been written for anybody.
If you are a commercially focused Managing Director, your CV should communicate that. If you are an Operations Director, it should demonstrate your operational leadership and scope. If you have progressed through technical roles into senior management, the document should explain that journey.
There isn’t a single formula that works for every senior professional.
That is precisely why my approach is bespoke.
You See and Discuss the First Draft
Once I have written the first draft, we don’t simply finish the job and send it to you.
We go through it together.
You know your career better than I ever could, so your input matters. If something doesn’t sound right, if an achievement needs more emphasis or if there is something important I have missed, we discuss it.
The objective is to produce a CV that is accurate, persuasive and genuinely represents you.
The same consultative approach applies to the wider package. Your CV, cover letters and LinkedIn profile should all tell a consistent professional story while each doing a different job.
A Complete Senior Career Package
For senior professionals, I believe the greatest value comes from looking at the whole application rather than simply producing a CV.
That is why my packages can include your bespoke CV, two bespoke cover letters, LinkedIn profile optimisation and one-to-one LinkedIn coaching.
You don’t simply receive a collection of documents.
You get the opportunity to understand how your CV works, why ATS matters, how your cover letters support your applications and how to use LinkedIn effectively for your own circumstances.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long should a senior-level CV be?
There isn’t a magic number of pages simply because you are senior. What matters is relevance. Your CV needs enough detail to demonstrate your experience, scope and achievements without becoming a career history that nobody wants to read.
Do you write CVs for senior managers and executives?
Yes. I work with experienced professionals, senior managers and executives, including people targeting Director and C-suite positions. The approach is always based on the individual and the career they have built.
Do you use AI to write senior CVs?
No. I write your CV myself following our consultation. I believe senior professionals need a document based on properly understanding their career rather than an AI-generated version of an existing CV.
Do the packages include cover letters?
Yes. My packages include two bespoke cover letters, written around your experience and the types of roles you are targeting.
Do you also optimise LinkedIn?
Yes. I optimise your LinkedIn profile and, importantly, I personally take you through the relevant settings and show you how to use LinkedIn effectively. This is included in the package rather than being an additional coaching charge.
Can you help if I’m still employed and don’t want my employer to know I’m looking?
Yes. This is one of the reasons I take a personal approach to LinkedIn. Your circumstances are different from somebody who is openly looking for work, so we can look at the relevant settings and how you use LinkedIn accordingly.
Let’s Talk About Your Senior-Level CV
If you have reached a point in your career where your existing CV no longer reflects the level of responsibility, experience and achievement you have built, it may be time for a different approach.
I will take the time to understand your career properly, identify the achievements and experience that matter and build a CV around the value you can offer your next employer.
Your CV, two bespoke cover letters and LinkedIn profile should work together as part of one coherent career strategy, not as three unrelated documents.
No templates. No AI-generated CV. No questionnaire-only process. Just a thorough, personal and consultative service built around you.
If that sounds like the approach you are looking for, book a consultation with me and let’s talk about where you want your career to go next.
